Boxing Gym

Website Redesign, Rebranding, Photography

old school Gym, new school of teaching.

A gym inherited during the Pandemic, this power couple has worked tirelessly to create a space students can learn to box, and to respect themselves.

While incredibly successful with influx of memberships, the owners of this gym were only reaching out to the audience through Instagram and word of mouth. Now that they were taking on more events and sending their own boxers to compete, they wanted a website that could establish them as an official boxing gym. One of the biggest values that they hold to in their gym is camaraderie; They don’t believe students should partake in competitive behavior, but should uplift each other in their path to self improvement.

The audience

This gym is the only boxing focused gym in their town; they compete for clients against gyms that offer more than one type of combat sport. We wanted to focus on not proving how this gym is better than the rest, but how it’s in a league of its own. The owners wanted to engage potential students, especially local youth, interested in making a commitment in physical and mental health in a space that welcomed all.

PHOTOGRAPHY

To fulfill the owners vision of an “old school” gym, I planned a shoot with the intention of having it displayed in monochrome. I spent an entire day at the gym dodging punches to capture moments during training that would emphasize the discipline potential clients would see. Going for a documentary style, “fly one the wall” approach, I worked with patrons of the gym to show off their intensity without having them pose.

Creating the Online Experience

To continue the aesthetic of an old school gym, we kept the website consistent with a monochromatic color palette save for the conservatively used branded red. Keeping the actual structure of the website simple allowed for the photography, especially the “hero” shots, to speak for themselves.

The coach consistently keeps quotes from famous athletes and trainers written out for his students to see for encouragement, so it only felt appropriate to give potential clients a glimpse on the website!
